Most people seeing red-blue glasses for the first time think of 3D cinema glasses or a toy. In fact this small device is a precise filter with a clear job in vision therapy: delivering different images to the two eyes from the same screen.

The logic of the color filter
The principle rests on the anaglyph technique, known for well over a century. A red filter passes red light and darkens blue tones; a blue filter does the reverse. When the content on screen is drawn in these two color channels, each eye sees only the part its own filter lets through.
An ordinary tablet or phone screen thus becomes a two-channel image source: one screen, two different images for two eyes.
The system it forms with the screen
In dichoptic training the separation is used like this: the critical parts of the task are placed in the weaker eye's channel, supporting content in the strong eye's channel, and the strong eye's share is usually shown at reduced contrast. The task can only be completed once the two parts merge in the brain.
There are other ways to achieve the same separation: polarized lenses, VR headsets, or special screens. The advantage of color-filter glasses is accessibility: they are inexpensive, light, and work with any screen at home.
What to watch for in practice
Which eye looks through which color is not random; it is set by the program and the doctor. Wearing the glasses the wrong way round reverses the target of the exercise, so follow the instructions on orientation.
For children with prescription glasses, the filter glasses are usually worn over them or clipped onto the lenses; training without the refractive error corrected is inefficient.
Clean, unscratched filters matter: a scratched or smudged filter can let the channels bleed into each other. Colors looking odd for a while during a session is normal and temporary.
The glasses alone treat nothing
